How NOT to study the Bible

I may post a more in-depth instruction on "how to" study the Bible but for now, I want to mention that the one way NOT to  study the scriptures, is to simply lean ALONE on a direct and un-aided understanding of what we're reading.

Today, we have more resources and information laid at our finger tips than ever before in recorded history.   Not to use commentaries, other Bible translations, Church history documents, and extra-Biblical source material in our study is to limit our scholarship.

But unfortunately today, that's what we have more than ever -- people who simply decide to be un-aided in their Bible studies, and literally regard all of those other resources as though they're "the enemy".

This is an extremely backwards understanding and approach to Bible scholarship.

This attitude in learning is what produces the cults, false doctrines, and continuous splintering  denominations.

Not to mention, approaching Bible study without a clear understanding of hermeneutics, proper exegesis, etc.

Relevant to this, I've posted my pre-video podcast on "The Essentials of The Christian Faith" in my last Blog.

Check it out and God bless!
